standing on ceremony

Wow! I really wonder where this school year has gone. Some days, the time just drags by and it seems like I am never going to catch a break. Other days, like today, I wonder where an entire year has gone.

Peanut had her fourth grade award ceremony today. It was supposed to be about two hours long but of course, in normal school fashion, it ran over. A little over wouldn't have been a bad thing but it ran over long enough that the poor fourths didn't get a lunch hour today! Partly because the cafeteria was being used to package up the food that the school collected for Kids Against Hunger and partly because the ceremony was really that long!

This year, they had each student video taped with a short message about what their favorite fourth grade memory was. Of course, Peanut picked their field trip to Lake St Clair and getting to see baby owls. I am not surprised that of all the things from this year, that seeing baby birds was the highlight. I was a little shocked though to hear that my non-writer daughter took the time to write an essay on being positive. She didn't place but it did earn her an Optimism award. Hopefully, that will help her realize that hard work DOES pay off, even if its not something "fun".

Sweet Pea was very impressed with hearing her sister's name called. Pork Chop just wanted to chat with everyone standing near us. I think that we made Peanut feel special today by going, even if she wasn't receiving any "major" awards. My hope is that just by attending and showing our support, that she will want to reach higher again next year.
