Happy St Paddy's day!

Happy St Patrick's day! May the luck of the Irish bless you and yours. I love today. I love any holiday, really, that centers around time with the family and good food. And today, we had plenty of both.

the shirt says it all
It makes me laugh to look back at pictures from last St Patrick's day and see my two littlest ones running around outside, barefoot, eating popsicles. Today, if you went outside barefoot you would probably turn into a popsicle. My sister is convinced that our weather is going to turn beautiful by this Saturday so fingers crossed. I am not putting much faith in our fickle friend, Mother Nature, this year. She seems to be having a grand time playing jokes on us.

My special treat today was that I got to make Irish Car Bomb cupcakes for us. Mmmm!! Hubby had never heard of them before and got quite a kick out of the cashier knowing exactly what I was planning by what we bought. The littles enjoyed licking the spoons/beaters (bad mama, I know but eh, they are only little once) but didn't enjoy the finished products at all. Hubby, on the other hand, was thrilled to see enough for him to take some to work tomorrow.

Special treat for the adults tonight was our yearly corned beef and cabbage dinner. Heaven! Simply heaven! I keep telling myself every year that I will make this dish more often and it seems that every year, we only have it a few times. I would say that I am going to add it to our monthly rotation but I know that it won't happen and I will just end up disappointed in myself. But if it tastes this good once a year, I will gladly uphold that tradition.

Special treat for the littles today... hubby bought a small remote controlled helicopter to play with them. I know of one very small boy who is in complete heaven right now! Our little man of so few words spent the entire evening crawling onto the counters, pointing and screaming "cop!" until his daddy would fly it around the room. The look of excitement on Pork's face was enough to make every jolt, every sting, every hair tug from that copter totally worth it.

time to reflect

Well, that was an... interesting.... birthday celebration. I guess that I should have seen it coming.... I had to miss my sister's bachlorette party last night because of PorkChop's fever. I DID keep my nephew for her though so I thought that everything was good. Yeah, guess not. She picked up G about a half hour before everyone was supposed to be here for cake/dinner. Then my other sister, who said that she would be here, turned around and didn't show either. I know that it shouldn't bother me but it does. Thankfully, my mom and a family friend DID help us celebrate which I am forever grateful for.

Brownie cupcake with cookie dough frosting, anyone?
Hubby kept his word and didn't let me bake my own birthday cake. I did keep my word for our friend and made delicious chocolate cupcakes with the most amazing frosting ever! Hubby, aka Mr Betty Crocker, made me his first totally from scratch carrot cake. And let me say, that it was the most delicious thing that I have ever put in my mouth! I am so proud that he not only attempted to make me a cake that I could have but that it turned out so amazingly well.

And the best birthday gift ever.... PorkChop's fever finally broke tonight! Not sure how that's going to go over with the Infectious Disease pediatrician but I am thankful. I really hope that we can now just make it through our vacation without the fever coming back. If it stays on its new schedule, it should hit the day that we leave. So please, mystery fever... please... I know that I want a diagnosis and soon but if you could just wait until we come back, I would really appreciate it.

Super Super Bowl Sunday

I have never been a big football fan. Being from the Mitten State, its not like we have anything awe-inspiring in the way of pigskin. As a result, I am not a Super Bowl watcher. I don't even care about the new commercials. I can come up with about 50 more things off the top of my head that I would rather be doing. But hubby asks to watch two games all year.... the Super Bowl and the UofM/OSU game. And I don't think that that's too much to ask. So Super Bowl Sunday was observed here.

And while the lights went out in Georgia, the littles got their bath time in. I was a little worried about actually doing our Sunday night bath routine since SweetPea was still running a fever, but its PorkChop's favorite time (other than boobing... I think that that one ranks high on is hit list as well). And why not? It was a good way to pass the 40 minutes while we waited for the game to come back on.

Besides, after helping me "bake" chocolate marshmallow cupcakes this morning, having grilled chicken ka-bobs for dinner, getting overly excited about the Big Game and all the "normal" Sunday things, those two littles NEEDED their bath time. They needed it to get clean, to unwind, and to get some fun play in.

Usually though, to bathe Porker means that you are really bathing the entire bathroom. But hubby invented an awesome game to keep him occupied.... dumping cups of water on his head. Now, most babies (and all our other kids) hate having water on their face. PorkChop though, he LOVES it. And best yet, it saves the rest of our bathroom!
